Making concerts
affordable
Cherniavsky's "Mr.
Music" Fund is a ticket subsidy program for students
to attend professional live performances of traditional
classical music, opera and ballet in their communities.
Sponsored by the Cherniavsky Junior Club for the
Performing Arts Society and administered by ArtStarts
in Schools, the funding program was named after
Jan Cherniavsky, a world renowned pianist.
The Cherniavsky's "Mr. Music" Fund offers grants
directly to schools to assist in purchasing tickets
for students to attend a wide range of classical
and traditional music, opera or ballet. The Cherniavsky's
"Mr. Music" Fund will contribute 50% of the price
of each ticket, up to $5 per ticket, for a maximum
grant of $300 per school. School principals, teachers,
PACs and district contacts can apply for funding.
For full guidelines, see the grant application form.
To qualify for funding, the events attended must
be classical or traditional music, opera or ballet,
performed by professional artists and presented,
or produced, by local, or non-profit, organizations.
Qualifying performances include: recognized orchestral
and opera companies; choral events; classical and
modern ballet; chamber music; classical soloists
in concert or recital. Events that do not qualify
are performances in schools and music workshops.
Each year ArtStarts receives more applications than
can be funded; as a result, grants are awarded through
a lottery system. Successful applicants are notified
within three weeks of the deadline. For further
