This free workshop series
for families at our downtown gallery features 45-minute,
multi-disciplinary, culturally diverse workshops led
by some of BC's best children’s performers.
All workshops take place at the ArtStarts
gallery for young people’s art, 808 Richards
St (at Robson) in Vancouver
No pre-registration necessary. Ideal for 5 to 12 year
olds, but all ages welcome. Pay parking across the
street.
Learn about the language of
drumming in this hands-on workshop. Master drummer
Milton Randall gets kids & parents feeling the
beat with African, Brazilian and other forms of popular
rhythms.Sudnya Mulye tells stories
of India through the classical dance style Bharata
Natyam. Kids will explore culture and tradition through
dance, movement and expression.
Join multi-award winning
band The Kerplunks for a fun and playful look at the
instruments we all know and love! Song, dance and
storytelling will enliven this fun-filled workshop,
where kids will learn about instruments' tones, histories
and musical roles.
Involving the whole spirit,
Taiko drumming is a combination of martial arts and
drumming techniques. Join us for this lively introductory
workshop, where Bonnie Soon will help kids & parents
to practice Taiko stance and movements, basic drumming
skills, vocal shouts, and song playing.
Slide into a story! Jump
out of a picture! Wriggle around an idea! Drawing
from Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild
Things Are, Kathryn Ricketts reveals new ways
to interpret a classic tale. Using techniques from
creative movement, to storytelling, to visual play,
participants will experience the book like never before.
Get on your feet and join in on some action-packed
musical adventures! Bobs & Lolo use music, movement
and make-believe to inspire kids with an appreciation
for the natural world.
