ARTISTS SERVICES AGREEMENT

Following a series of artists meetings held this past winter, ArtStarts has been developing an Artists Services Agreement to clarify what services artists can expect from us and what we expect in return (ie: deadlines for directory submissions, fees and dates). Since then, we’ve sent a first draft to over 35 artists and groups and received many excellent suggestions for changes and improvements, which we’ve incorporated into the agreement.

Now we'd like your feedback. Please email harriet@artstarts.com with any issues or concerns by September 10.

DIRECT PAYMENT PROGRAM EXPANDS

For the past year, we've been piloting a direct payment program with the Surrey School District (SD 36) where we invoice the district for all ArtStarts bookings and pay artists directly on Fridays for same-week performances.

This process means fewer payments to track and fewer cheques to issue for the district, and for most artists, faster payments than by invoicing the District.

In response to the success of the pilot, Mission School District (SD 75) has requested to join the program. As a result, starting in September, artists/groups with bookings in both Surrey and Mission will be paid promptly directly from ArtStarts.

ROYAL PERFORMANCES

ArtStarts bookings are up over 2,000 for the coming school year but that didn't stop touring artists from making the most of their summers. A gig at the Aberdeen International Youth Festival landed youth marimba ensemble Kutapira a private performance for the Queen at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and Jambanja Marimba overcame a public playing ban in Victoria to perform for the queen of daytime television, Oprah Winfrey, in the vicinity of Alert Bay. Kudos to all!
